Pontifical College Josephinum Diaconate Institute

The Pontifical College Josephinum is a Roman Catholic seminary located in Columbus, Ohio.   It is the only pontifical seminary outside of Italy and was granted pontifical status in 1892 by Pope Leo XIII.  The Josephinum has continued the vision of its founder, Msgr. Joseph Jessing, by preparing clergy for the new evangelization and to serve the pastoral needs of the Church.  In fidelity to that vision and in addition to the seminary, the Josephinum offers educational resources through distance learning to diaconal candidates, permanent deacons and lay ministers who serve the people of God through ministry in the Church.

The Josephinum established the Josephinum Diaconate Institute in 2007 with the vision of using online education to strengthen pre and post ordination diaconate formation on a national and worldwide basis.  The Institute’s distance learning program was developed in conjunction with the National Association of Diaconate Directors (NADD) and is now accredited by the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
